BLOGGER MIXED-BAG: DORIAN FROM POSTMODERNBARNEY
My wife and I listened to this mix in the car and we both just had the best time with it. Just about every track was something that I would put into my regular play list (meaning they are already on my IPod). The real standouts are:

My wife and I listened to this mix in the car and we both just had the best time with it. Just about every track was something that I would put into my regular play list (meaning they are already on my IPod). The real standouts are:
- the Polyphonic Spree's cover of Wig in a Box from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I've been a fan of the Spree for awhile, as they are the Cult of Wayne (Coyne of the Flaming Lips). I wasn't aware of this track, but it really works for both the song and the band. I keep meaning to buy the soundtrack for the show.
- The Avenue Q song...so funny. I have a friend in NYC who swears by this show. Now I know why.
- I courted my wife with the Magnetic Field's 69 Love Songs (especially "I'm the Luckiest Guy"). I like this track a lot.
- I don't know who Robbie Williams is, but he sounds like a cross between George Michael and Rufus Wainwright. Supreme is a very interesting and listenable song.
- The Phantom Theme...I keep trying to convince people how brilliant a film Phantom of the Paradise is. Paul William's songs are so much fun and the film, in my honest opinion, is DePalma's best. I gave my copy of the soundtrack to my brother, who is friends with Paul Williams, in the hopes of getting it back signed. Instead, it never came back...
- The hidden German dance mix of "Rubber Ducky" almost made me crash the car...

BLOGGER MIXED-BAG: MIKE FROM PROGRESSIVE RUIN
I have to be honest. It was a little hard for me to get into this mix. While I enjoyed the humor of Belushi at the outset, in general, the music was just hitting me the wrong way. Perhaps I just didn't have the mindset for it at the time I listened to it. This is not to say there were not things I really liked. The 7 Seconds cover of 99 Red Balloons was a great track. Plus how could I really disike any group of songs that has You're the Best on it? Fucking great! As an old time Rocky Horror cast member (Eddie), Science Fiction was a cool track for me, but I kept throwing lines in in my head. My favorite track was the Dixie Power Trio's cover of Stairway to Heaven. Very nice selection.

BLOGGER MIXED-BAG: LARRY FROM AiT/PLANET LAR
As some of you know, I am participating in Lefty's Blogger Mixed-Bag music exchange. As all the folks who are participating have spent good time and money getting their music to me, the least I can do is take the time to respond.
The first I have had a chance to sit down with is the CousCous Express Soundtrack from Larry. I liked the fact that he sent along a copy of the graphic novel, "CousCous Express" along with the music. I enjoyed the book for the writing more than the art, which was not my favorite style (When I collected comics back in the day, I read stuff like Nexus, Badger and Judge Dredd...My taste in Graphic Novels runs more to Sandman...but that's me) I did like the story, though. It developed nicely and the ending made the journey worthwhile. A nice slice of life, if not a violent one.
As for the music, being from an old-time punk family (my brother was the guitarist for the early 80's West Valley punk band, Killroy), I enjoyed the punk rock parts, specifically the Circle Jerks (whose recording of Beverly Hills/Century City on the Decline of the Western Civilization Vol. 1 still stands as one of my favorite drunken punk performance ever). I'm not the biggest fan of reggae or rap, but overall, I liked the mix. It was music not currently on my IPod and I'm always open to stuff I haven't heard or don't normally listen to.
